Homeowner Insurance |
News You Can Use Personal property is covered even if you are away from home when the loss occur (e.g. on vacation). If you have an expensive wedding/engagement ring set or other fine jewelry, you should know that most homeowner's policies only cover $1,000 worth of jewelry. Consider extra coverage if the value of your jewelry exceeds this amount. If you run a business from your home, most homeowner's insurance policies will cover only $2,500 worth of equipment. Add up the replacement value of your PC, printer, fax, and any other equipment, and make sure you are covered. Add identity theft coverage for a nominal fee. Real and Personal Property
- Real property is the home, as well as the
garage, the shed, and other structures. Personal property is the contents of your
home and your personal belongings. Liability - Covers bodily injury and property damage on your property for which you may be responsible. It also covers your activities elsewhere. In order to keep the basic premium low, insurance companies make certain assumptions about the average person's lifestyle and possessions. If you have an extensive hobby or collection of any kind, you will want to consider what it would take to replace it if it were lost. And while your car might be covered under your auto policy in the event of flood or earthquake, your home is not. If you live an area that is subject to either of these whims of nature, consider specific flood or earthquake coverage. Even though you may consider your ATV, RV, boat, snowmobile, or motorcycle your personal property, they are specifically excluded (as are all motorized vehicles except for your riding lawnmower) on your homeowner's insurance policy.
